Every journey begins with that first step, and the road to good carpet maintenance and cleaning begins with regular maintenance on a daily, or least weekly basis.
There are two key parts to remember as you begin that journey:
- Regular vacuuming – at least once a week. Ask yourself this question, “How many days do I want to let the dust mites in my carpet live with me and my family?” That will help put the Why of this issue into it’s proper perspective.
- Keep the air flowing through your vacuum. -I knowpeople who have it as a goal to see how long they can go before they have to empty the bag or cannister on their vacuum, like it was a goal for longevity, or something. They wear the “Mine lasted the longest” award like a medal they earned back in school when they scored that BIG touchdown or something.
Frequent vacuuming is probably the most overlooked and under-appreciated part in the carpet cleaning process.
Unless the air is flowing through that bag or canister, the dust is being recycled, and we’re not talking “Going Green” here folks. Dust needs to leave the scene, not be beat to death! That bag or canister needs to be replaced with each and every cleaning, and sometimes during each cleaning.
Other, more flashy (if carpet cleaning can ever be ‘flashy’) tips exist, and while they may appeal more to your common sense, these two issues matter more than all of them. Without regular vacuuming and a clean bag/canister, you can kiss the rest of the tips you’ll read about, ‘Goodbye’.
To bring this topic up to where it needs to be in your mind, the health of anyone in your home who has a tendency toward allergies or breathing problems is at risk as well. So, don’t just read about it – Do it!
If you need to be motivated to take actions, just do a search sometime for dust mites and bed bugs. That should make you put a regular cleaning program into play.
Dust mites have eight legs like spiders and have no antennae, they are too tiny to see without magnification and they feed on dead skin.
Ok, that’s far enough into the world of scare tactics.
In summary, the point here is that good carpet cleaning tips that are normally seen published are good to know, but without YOU doing the first step, i.e. vacuuming your carpet regularly and with a machine that has good airflow so that the dust is extracted from your floor and carpet, you’re fighting a losing battle. Game over, dust mites win!
Hey, I know, it’s a sucky task, but remember what the dust mites look like magnified 500 times. Happy vacuuming!
